The 2016/17 Sprint Season is underway with the first state regatta held on West Lakes today.

Conditions were kind with sunshine and a slight headwind and there was some great racing with close results.

The day started with a 2000m time trial, which was followed by 200m, 500m and 1000m races and a couple of K4 500m races with composite crews.

There was a very pleasing turn out with almost 50 competitors with many new faces competing in their first regatta.

A special mention must go to the canoeing girls.  It was fantastic to see a couple of all women’s canoe races.  The future’s bright for this new International discipline.

The next state regatta is on Saturday the 29th of October.  Watch this space for more details.
