Welcome to the West Lakes Canoe Club and the wonderful world of Canoe-Kayaking
Canoe-Kayaking is an extremely rewarding sport and pastime that offers many exciting pathways for you to follow. The physical benefits of participating in this challenging outdoor activity are many, and the pure
enjoyment of a paddling session, whether it is part of an elite training program or just simply to get out on the water for fun, makes canoe-kayaking the perfect release from the demands of our daily lives.
West Lakes Canoe Club is one of the most successful clubs in Australia with a very high level of representation on National Teams every year. At the 2016 National Championships, which were held in Perth in March, we won the award for the top club in Australia based on the performances of our members and 14 of our members were chosen to compete for Australia on National Teams in events in Europe, including the Para-Canoe, Under-23 and Junior World Championships teams and the Olympic Hopes Regatta for emerging junior athletes aged 15 to 17 years.
We provide an excellent environment for developing paddlers who wish to compete and have been rated Gold-level by the national body, Australian Canoeing, which is the highest rating level. Our high standard coaching structure, facilities and equipment will provide you with every opportunity to go as far as you wish in the sport, maybe even to the Olympic Games.
However, canoe-kayaking is not just about competing; it’s also a fantastic recreational pastime with enormous health benefits and great adventure. Our club holds many events through the year to help you get the most out of paddling, by meeting other paddlers, sharing experiences and learning more about the opportunities that canoe-kayaking provides, in a safe and inclusive environment. There are also several senior training groups that regularly paddle together and provide guidance, support and encouragement to each other as they strive to reach goals or simply paddle for the enjoyment of it.
Membership of the club provides you with full access to facilities and equipment, including a key to the club rooms and access to club equipment, including boats, paddles and life-jackets. Club membership fees include an affiliation fee, which covers membership with the state body, Canoe SA, and the national body, Australian Canoeing, and provides insurance coverage for members in all club related activities.
On behalf of the club I welcome new members and thank you for choosing West Lakes Canoe Club. I also thank all of our existing members and partner organisations for their ongoing support of the club.
